Name: John Whittingham
Position: Technical Sales Support Specialist – Consumables. Based in Auckland
How long have you been working at Heidelberg? 3 years
What did you do before joining Heidelberg? Technical Sales Representative, supplying consumables to the printing industry.
Tell us about your hobbies? My hobbies are Golf (on good day I am my own handy cap) Music of all styles, the favorite is Jazz/Blues though.
What is your favorite place and why? The village of Como Italy. The people in Como I found to be so full of life and their day to day approach to life itself fascinating. Also the history of Volta and the churches and the scenery surrounding Lake Como.
Your favorite movie and why? Meet Joe Black. Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt played their rolls so well, exchanging differences where young and old are able learn from each other.
The most challenging experience you've had? White water rafting on a grade 6 river. I still feel the adrenalin rush of dropping down waterfalls and rapids at a great rate of knots.
Describe a typical day at work Each day usually starts from checking emails and then out to customer appointments. These are a mixed bag of technical issues, putting quotes together and securing consumable business for customers throughout New Zealand. Then later in the day contacting customers elsewhere in New Zealand to keep up ongoing consumable sales and discussing prospects with Account Managers.
What qualities do you have that improve customer satisfaction? I always employ an attitude of “I can and I will” and remaining positive and friendly even when things get tough.
What do you like best about working at Heidelberg? The amount of information made available regarding any subject and support to assist customers in their business decisions.
The most memorable moment at Heidelberg? When a customer placed a 970 kg ink order 2 days after making a business decision on price that Heidelberg was too expensive. Customer thought about all the value adds available to them from Heidelberg and gave us the order despite being more expensive up front.
What would you be doing if you didn't work for Heidelberg? Own and operate a Cafe/ Wine bar on the Northern Italian or Southern French coastlines and enjoy.
Where do you see yourself in five years time? Still working for Heidelberg. Maybe in our Melbourne Head Office.
