Heidelberg Australia/New Zealand (HAN) officially opened its new Australasian headquarters and Print Media Academy on Friday 14th December 2007.

Hundreds of customers and business associates of Heidelberg attended the opening which featured a visit from Victorian Premier John Brumby. Along with Bernhard Schreier, CEO Heidelberg, Mr. Brumby cut the ribbon and declared the building officially open.

With over 4,000 square metres of space over three floors, one quarter of which is dedicated to the state-of-the-art Melbourne Print Media Academy, Heidelberg’s new home is an impressive building.

The new premises opened for business in mid-October 2007, after a planning and construction process of over two years. Mr. Brumby thanked Heidelberg for investing in Victoria and recognised the print media industry as one which typifies success in Victoria. Unlike other states in Australia, Victoria does not have a wealth of natural or mineral resources. Victoria’s growth and success comes from investment in technology and production.

HAN Managing Director Andy Vels Jensen said, “The move made sense across all areas of the business, not least the fact that it brings us closer to our customers and was an excellent proposition which secures our cost base moving forward.”

The new office has been designed with a multitude of environmental considerations in mind, such as hot water timers, sensor controlled lighting, extra insulation, solar glazing and window louvres. Not only will the new premises add value to the print media industry, its environmental footprint has been considered and minimised in the building’s design.

Mr. Schreier said in his opening speech, “Heidelberg has been present in Australia for more than 80 years and you, our valued customers, should view this new building as our continued commitment towards this market and our determination to remain the leading supplier to the industry. Alongside increased investments in people and apprentice programs, we plan to be around for another 80 years in this market.”
