Regular Maintenance

The importance of regular operator maintenance cannot be overstated.  All Heidelberg presses come with comprehensive operator maintenance manuals, and late model presses have maintenance information, spare parts lists & schedules at the touch of a button in the CP2000 press centre.

With today’s market pressures and deadlines it is tempting to let maintenance schedules slip, and if left attended this can lead to premature wear of press components, reduction of press reliability and poor print quality.

As an example let’s explore what can happen with poor maintenance a key component: - the cam follower.

This item should be lubricated monthly, (based on a 16 hr day – please check your manual for specific details).  If not properly maintained the cam follower will wear prematurely.  This will lead variations in the gripper opening and closing timing, leading to sheet movement and an array of print quality issues including colour variation, doubling and fit problems.

Worst case scenarios with extended periods of neglect include catastrophic failure of the follower as well as excessive wear on the cam.  This requires an expensive replacement of components, not to mention the downtime on the press to affect the repairs.

Regular maintenance following the HEIDELBERG maintenance program will ensure maximum press life, reliability and print quality.
