XL105 Now Goes Double |
 |
Since its introduction at Drupa 2004, the Speedmaster XL105 has continued to set new benchmarks for production output. A label printer in the USA recently achieved over a 100 million impressions in the first 12 months of production with their new XL105 - an outstanding result for any print shop.
Heidelberg’s research and development continues to set new standards in Peak Performance presses with the introduction of double coating for the XL105.
Double coating is not new to our industry, but its use has been restricted to specialist print shops due the limited markets available for its application in Australia, and the low demand. However increased interest in special finishes, in line with trends overseas is driving demand and investment.
Heidelberg Australia recently installed two CD102-6 double coaters; one each in Melbourne and Sydney. Both presses are proving that Heidelberg’s double coating technology is highly productive and stable and bodes well for the introduction of the XL105 double coating press (LYYL).
Double Coating at 18,000sph?
One of the limiting factors in running at 18,000sph with double coaters is the press’ drying capability.
This has been overcome on the XL105 double coater’s by having twin intermediate drying stations between the coating units. Heidelberg has also adapted its high performance DryStar 3000 technology into the intermediate drying stations, ensuring peak performance is achieved – drying at top speed.
The sheet is delivered through a 2.4 metre extended delivery ensuring plenty of time for the sheet to dry. Through Heidelberg’s unique “plug and play” peripherals concept, control of the dryers is remote via the CP2000 console with full job storage capabilities as is the coating system via Coatingstar for supply and wash up.
With coating and drying power like this, the XL105 double coaters can reach printing speeds of up to 18,000sph – the same conventional non coating units.
All XL105 double coaters come with Heidelberg’s Preset Plus feeder and delivery, with full preset air settings and individual job storage capabilities.
To compliment the high performance package of the XL105, an optional Multi Cassette loader on the coating unit can be installed, where up to four anilox rollers can be stored for quick and efficient roller changes.
