Name: Robert Parker
Position: Service Parts Sales Manager
How long have you been working with Heidelberg? Twelve years across Heidelberg Post Press, Heidelberg UK and more recently HAN.
What is the reason for you to choose to live in Australia? I am a great outdoors person, I like surfing and camping in the summer and skiing in the winter. Australia provides an excellent environment to bring up my 3 kids.
What do you feel you offer HAN? My last two roles with Heidelberg meant working across "boundaries", involving other departments, working with customers, other Heidelberg sales companies, the factory and suppliers. I feel I am open to new ideas, and believe there are often more than two ways to view a problem. The trick is to look at a problem from the perspective of others and then try to find the best solution. Developing HAN parts sales business means showing customers the value in buying genuine original Heidelberg parts. I believe my experience and understanding of customer needs will help.
What are the differences working for HAN versus working for Heidelberg UK? HUK 45 minute drive to work in the rain - boo; Pommies (I'm English) winning the cricket - Hurrah! HAN; The 45 minute drive to work in the sun - hurrah; Aussies (my new home country) winning the cricket - Hurrah!
How would you describe your team? The guys and gals in the Parts and Logistics department have been friendly and helpful and everyone at HAN has certainly helped me to settle in.
The most memorable experience working with Heidelberg? Whilst working with HUK I'd say it was taking part at DRUPA 2000 and 2004. Heidelberg puts ALL the other suppliers in shade. You need to see it to really appreciate it. Whilst working at HAN I'd say it was being given my Aussie nickname "Parko"- seems its an Aussie thing to shorten your name and add an “Oh”.
The most challenging thing you have done or experienced? I spent two weeks in the armed forces playing "war games" which meant two weeks in the cold and wet with 4 hours sleep a night. That was an experience. But on reflection, I'd say the most challenging thing I did was working full time for Heidelberg, while studying for a MBA, while also going through bringing in two of our three children into the world. For the final year I lived on Red Bull and crisps. It made the lack of sleep during the war games seem pretty easy.
The best thing about working at Heidelberg? It’s a big company with lots of opportunities.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? In five years time I expect I'll be doing the same thing that I'm doing now, which is looking forward to what the next 5 years is going to bring!
