The Blue Star Print Group (BSPG) has purchased a complete Heidelberg Prinect system to be installed at their Melbourne and Sydney sites. The sale sets a record for HAN as the largest prepress installation for a Heidelberg customer in the Australia/New Zealand market.
Installation began in January this year and will take an estimated 18 months to complete. The project is large not just in terms of its complexity and the integration challenges, but also in terms of the number of personnel from both HAN and BSPG who are involved in the project.
HAN has allocated 2,300 working hours to the project, covering installation, integration and training. The whole project will involve 25 HAN field service representatives and will also include support from Heidelberg USA and Heidelberg Germany.

Installation is planned in stages which will allow BSPG to integrate each component of the new technology into their factories. This staged installation will enable BSPG personnel to learn the new systems and will ensure a smooth transition to the new operating platform.
The phasing will ensure HAN retain manpower capacity to look after its commitments with existing other new sites.
The record deal came about when in November 2006 BSPG experienced problems with their existing CtP system. With a failed system holding up production BSPG turned to Heidelberg to supply a replacement Ctp device; the Suprasetter H105.
Following BSPG’s positive experience with the new Suprasetter HAN presented a proposal for a more comprehensive prepress package. Installation has so far followed the plan set down in January and both HAN and BSPG are confident that the project will be completed on schedule, with the complete package being fully operational by June 2008.
