After working with Heidelberg Taiwan for over 12 years, Steve Chen and his family decided to move to New Zealand in 2006. Steve chose to continue his career with Heidelberg New Zealand (HNZ) and joined HNZ in April this year as a Printing Instructor.
How long have you been working with Heidelberg? 13 years

What is the reason for you to move to New Zealand and what appeals most about the country?
The reason I moved to New Zealand is because of its nice environment, natural wonders and the relaxing lifestyle. It’s a multi-cultural country as well, so I am welcomed as someone from somewhere else, while at the same time I can learn about another culture. We are enjoying every moment of our new life in New Zealand.
What do you feel you offer HNZ?
My experience, skills and up-to-date knowledge. I am willing to help others and enjoy solving customer problems.
What are the differences working for HNZ versus working for Heidelberg Taiwan?
Working for HNZ as a Printing instructor I am concentrating on printing issues, Where as in Taiwan I used to deal with all kinds of tasks on Heidelberg machines. This helped me learn a lot, however you can’t be an expert in every field and now I am focusing on print problems and helping to train and inform our customers I am enjoying things even more.
How would you describe your team?
I have to say it is such a friendly team. We are all happy to help each other. From the first day at HNZ, my colleagues said to me, “You are always welcome to ring me anytime.” Everyone has made me and my family welcome in our new lives.
The most memorable moment working with Heidelberg
When I was still working in Taiwan, one customer still remembers me after two years. I solved a feeding problem on their machine. It was not a big job, but the customer appreciated this a lot and always says how grateful he is for overcoming the problem. This kind of thing is always encouraging and it kept’s reminding me how important our work is in eye’s of our customer, when even little things make a big difference.
The best thing about working at Heidelberg
Working at Heidelberg means we are always dealing with the latest printing technology. It’s a privilege to work with the best. Apart from that, at Heidelberg I have travelled a lot and have many opportunities to meet people from different countries.
What would you be doing if you didn’t join Heidelberg?
I guess I would be a printer, a very good one, I hope.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years I will be still at Heidelberg. I’d like to continue to share my knowledge and experience with other people, both customers and colleagues.
