Speedmaster CD 74 Takes Another Leap Forward |
 |
Since its introduction at Drupa 2000 Heidelberg’s Speedmaster CD 74 has become the clear market leader in the high performance A2 sector. Continued productivity enhancements will ensure that the CD 74 continues to set the pace in this high-speed, high-quality sector.
Now with over 200 units installed in Australia and New Zealand, the CD 74 has taken A2 printing to new production levels. With a comprehensive range of presses from the traditional four colour to the industries first five over five long perfector with coating on both sides there really is something for everyone with the CD 74.
To cement its place as the market leader in A2 press sales, the CD 74 has taken another leap forward in production output through the introduction of 18,000sph printing. To support such a production speed, a host of industry-first features have been added to the press to ensure that increased output can be achieved on a daily basis.
As all printers will know, the secret to achieving higher production speed is in the feeding and delivery of the sheet. With this in mind, the CD 74 now comes standard with a new feeder head and new sheet brake also two optional unique features to ensure stable production.
Preset Feeder head. (Standard) By entering the sheet size and stock thickness into the CP2000 console, the CD 74 aligns the feed header and draws on a database of stored air settings in the CP2000 console to set the required air blast and suction air for the lifters. This automated feature therefore removes the need for operators to ‘fiddle’ searching for the required settings and thus reduces the possibility of human error to an almost zero.
Automatic Pile Lifting Control. (Optional) To ensure the feeder head is always at the optimal height for sheet transportation to the feed table, sensors at the front edge of the pile constantly measure the pile height in relation to the feeder head. If height varies due to uneven stacks the CD 74 automatically lifts or lowers the feeder head, keeping the stack and feeder head at optimal height for high speed production.
New Sheet Brake/Dynamic Sheet Brake The ability to slow sheets coming through the press from 18,000sph and stack them neatly and mark free in the delivery, or to handle difficult stocks is a challenge.
The CD 74 is now fitted with three dual remote controlled sheets brakes, giving a total of six sheet brakes (standard). The positioning of the brakes is controlled via the CP2000 console. When running without a centre gutter the centre brake can be removed and the outer brakes angled outwards tensioning the sheet to ensure no marking happens on the underside and production speeds can be maintained.
Optionally the CD 74 can be fitted with the new Dynamic Sheet Brake, where each sheet is picked up by the sheet brake at 95% of the delivery speed then individually slowed down and delivered to the pile. The brake repeats this for every sheet ensuring mark free, clean stacks.
With these further enhancements, the CD74 is sure to continue its place as the market leader for high performance A2 printers.
