As one of the largest quality printers in Sydney, Craft Printing has a large variety of sheetfed presses, modern prepress facilities and finishing equipment that enables them to provide the cost effective and innovative solutions their customers demand.
In January this year Craft installed a Stahlfolder TH82. Being one of the most popular automated folders the TH82 allows Craft to offer greater flexibility for meeting the market challenges and constantly changing requirements of their customers.
Finishing – the vital part of printing process
Craft employs 172 staff with 42 of these in the finishing division. “Finishing has always been a vital part of this business,” said Lindsay Hannan, General Manager of Craft Printing. “Due to the high volume output from our press rooms, we require quick and efficient production from the post press area in order to maintain the workflow.” Hannan added, “This was the motivation for Craft Printing to look at the new generation of digital folders. Following a thorough investigation the Stahlfolder TH82 was chosen”. For Craft the technical features such as the high automation, optimised output and ease of operation perfectly matched Craft’s requirements, with live operation exceeding expectations.
“The new technology is a must for today’s bindery in order to keep pace with the press market,” said Hannan. “Printers spend millions on presses and forget the importance of finishing. Highly productive folders are essential if high volume/short turnaround work is going to be achieved in today’s market.”

Stahlfolder TH82 – the new dimension of professional folding
The Stahlfolder TH82 runs an average of twice the speed of the older conventional folders Craft used to have. Make-ready times have been reduced by a further 50% because of the automation components and ergonomic operation. In a wise investment choice Craft was able to replace three older folders with one Stahl TH82 – proving in this case at least that one does equal three!
“It is impressive to look at the Stahl TH82 running. We see web presses running at 80,000iph and the sheetfed presses now doing 18,000iph in our group. To stand at a folder that is doing a 3 up 6pp DL running at 230mpm being run by one operator leaves you excited.” said Hannan.
Craft Printing was so impressed with their first TH82 they ordered another one which was installed in the end of July. What better testament to this folder’s abilities than for it to prove itself in the field and inspire another investment?
