A feature of Heidelberg’s offering at IPEX 2006 was a comprehensive display showing the benefits to be gained through process integration – at the heart of which is the company’s Prinect Integration System. Innovations were on show, enabling customers to see how Prinect has now come ‘full circle’ in the integration stakes.
From the creation of a job ticket based on a customer order, using that data in Prepress to imposition and rip the job and make plates, forwarding pre-settings and content data to the press and onto the finishing area, and, for the first time, feeding back shopfloor data in real-time to the new Prinect Integration System.
So, what has changed with this new version?
As shown at IPEX 2006, Prinect now offers the greatest benefit of integration: transparency of production by all JDF compliant products. The production manager can track any job throughout the entire workflow from one single user interface. One unique job ticket is used for a job throughout the whole production chain. Based on individual user rights, to prevent misuse, the manager can see warnings or information notes at any workstation in the network. They can even change the order of jobs to sneak in urgent customer requests.
Most important, and – one of the biggest advantages – is the ability to track activities at the press in real time - how fast is the press running, how many sheets are printed at this moment, how long did it take to make ready, how much waste is produced – all from the back office without the need to interrupt production.
Finally, the Job Messaging Format feeds back device information to the Management Information System and enables a transparent post-production calculation based on real figures. So it is not only possible to optimize production, but you can also know right away whether a job has been profitable or not – all in real time.
Heidelberg is the first and only vendor in the industry to offer this level of integration. Because Prinect´s philosophy is to be highly modular, the benefits for customers are immense: you can start with what is really needed, but keep the big picture in mind with the ability to grow and add modules as your company grows. With every added module, you add more value to the whole production chain.
