Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has extensive expertise in integrating management, prepress, press and postpress into a standardized workflow. In the run-up to drupa, the company is extending this expertise to include packaging printing. Prinect will therefore also enable print shops to produce high-quality packaging much faster than before and make their costs more transparent.
The development of new Prinect modules and the extension of existing ones will ensure efficient packaging printing Working in close cooperation with international packaging printers, Heidelberg has set out the workflow functions required for the production of folding cartons and labels. The resulting Prinect workflow can be configured as necessary to meet the diverse requirements of packaging printing - and regardless of whether a print shop specializes in one specific application only, produces both packaging and commercial work, requires an entry-level integration solution, or aims to integrate its entire business as quickly as possible. The scalability of the solutions allows customers to adapt their systems to their particular growth path, while the modular design also safeguards their investment in the long term.
The extensions to the Prinect workflow recently introduced by Heidelberg - the Prinect Postpress Manager for integrating postpress and the Prinect Scheduler electronic planning board - will both lead to significant improvements in the efficiency of production sequences, particularly in packaging printing.
This makes Heidelberg the first supplier in its field to integrate all print shop processes into an end-to-end JDF (Job Definition Format) based workflow covering management, prepress, pressroom and postpress, and to make this available to both packaging and commercial printers.
"Since drupa 2004, Heidelberg has successfully positioned its completely JDF-based Prinect workflow on the market. Our customers particularly value the full integration, which extends from the management information system to machine presetting, and from prepress and press to postpress. They also value the service we provide and our support in implementing the solution. We are now extending our expertise into packaging printing, an area in which there were previously few or no standardized workflows available. This new workflow will of course interact perfectly with our instrumentation and control systems," explained Dr. Jürgen Rautert, Management Board Member responsible for Products, Engineering and Manufacturing at Heidelberg, summarizing the workflow strategy for the packaging sector.
At the forthcoming drupa, Heidelberg will present and explain in detail the specific technical functions of the new workflow.
