Hong Kong Logistics Centre opens to complete Heidelberg’s globe-spanning service parts network.
Heidelberg’s Hong Kong Logistics Centre (HLC) opened in November 2007, offering a closer and faster link between Heidelberg’s Australian and New Zealand (HAN’s) customers, and those service parts not stocked locally.
The HLC fills the last gap in Heidelberg’s globe-spanning service parts network. Joining the existing logistics facilities in Germany, the United States and Japan, the new hub at East Asia’s heart will help to more than halve the waiting time for parts not held locally.
While the majority of service parts can be delivered to local customers within 24 hours of ordering, for the small percentage of parts not held in HAN’s warehouses, the shipping time will reduce by more than fifty percent.
In the past, parts not held locally had to come from Germany, where the transit time could be five or more days. Now these parts will be sourced from Hong Kong, where the transit time will be two days.
The HLC occupies about 900 square metres of space on the 27th floor of a 31-floor building close to Hong Kong Airport. Such close proximity to the airport means that orders received up until 5.15pm Hong Kong time will be dispatched the same evening.
HAN’s Supply and Logistics Manager, Craig Brunnen, said, “While the vast majority of service parts used on a regular basis are held in our Australian and New Zealand warehouses, there will be occasions when ‘not so common’ parts need to be ordered from overseas. With a more than fifty percent reduction in transit time, this translates to considerable service improvements for our customers.”
