Wasting no time to the finishing stage - around 30 percent of time is saved
The Speedmaster CD 74-5+LY-P-5+L from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will take productivity one step further at Ipex in Birming- ham, UK. The coating options before and after sheet reversal get custom- ers to the finishing stage much faster. This can lead to time savings of around 30 percent compared to production processes without dual coating units.
This new concept of accelerating the drying process by applying a protective coating during perfecting - particularly important for on-demand jobs - is just one of the benefits. The design of the Speedmaster CD 74-5+LY-P-5+L means customers can also apply glossy coatings in defined quantities, thereby both perfecting and coating in a single pass. This can take the form of full-area or spot coating.
"With this concept, which no other manufacturer offers in medium-sized format, we are supplying a press option that is in heavy demand from the markets and which enables our customers to produce their products more effectively," explains Bernd Blumberg, Small and Medium-Format Product Manager at Heidelberg. In the medium and long term, around a third of Speedmaster CD 74 models supplied are expected to be delivered with this coating option before and after sheet reversal.
The Speedmaster CD 74 with perfecting device was unveiled at drupa 2004. "In our view, the option now being launched is a logical development of the long perfector," emphasizes Blumberg.
To date, over 5,000 Speedmaster CD 74 printing units have been supplied. Some 400 of these have been used in Speedmaster CD 74 presses with eight or more printing units.
